APM Contract Awarded

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has authorized the award of a $42 million contract to design, build, finance, operate and manage its new Automated People Mover (APM). The 30-year contract was awarded to the LAX Integrated Express Solutions (LINXS) team, a collaboration of Fluor, Balfour Beatty, Hochtief, ACS, Flatiron, Dragados USA, and Bombardier. The APM is the cornerstone project of LAMP – LAWA’S efforts to modernize and improve landside access.

LOS ANGELES (December 6, 2017) – Southern California’s Bob Hope USO, an independent nonprofit that serves over 200,000 military members and their families; Los Angeles World Airports and more than 100 members of the military, donors, volunteers and supporters celebrated the groundbreaking of their new location at the historic and iconic Theme Building at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) today.

The $14 billion in improvements at LAX have stolen the show, but the airport is not the only place that’s getting a face-lift.

Office Building Near LAX to be Converted to Hyatt Hotels

A 13-story office tower near Los Angeles International Airport will be converted into a 129-room Hyatt House and a 272-room Hyatt Place Hotel, according to an announcement from investment banking firm George Smith Partners.

George Smith Partners, based in Century City, arranged $50 million in construction financing for the conversion project on behalf of the owner, 5959 LLC. The conversion of the 258,000-square-foot building, at 5959 Century Blvd., into a dual-branded hotel is planned for some time in 2019.

Real estate analysts familiar with the area just east of the airport’s terminals and north of its runways said the tightening office market is being spurred by hotel conversions, office renovations, $14 billion in airport investment, new transit projects and demand from companies pushed out by Silicon Beach’s rising rates.
