Inglewood releases draft environmental report on 1.6-Mile train project

A draft environmental report was released today on a planned 1.6-mile transit project to connect the Crenshaw/LAX Metro Line from downtown Inglewood to SoFi Stadium, The Forum and other activity and entertainment centers in the city.

The Inglewood Transit Connector Project is expected to be completed in 2026 and is projected to reduce vehicle trips around in the entertainment areas, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality and public heath, officials said.

Once the elevated, electrical transit system is complete, vehicle trips per day are expected to decrease by between 920 and 1,410 along Prairie Avenue between Manchester and Century boulevards, and by between 1,078 and 1,170 trips per day on Century Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard, officials said.

Vehicle trips will also decrease by an estimated 430 to 757 on Manchester Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard, according to officials.

The project includes a construction commitment program that will "proactively address the potential effect of the construction of the project on the community,'' according to officials. They also said some roadways and infrastructure may have to be reconfigured to accommodate the transit system.

The transit system's automated people mover will stop at three stations and is expected to support the ongoing economic revitalization in the city, which officials said is one of the fastest-growing population, housing, employment and entertainment centers in the county.

The project extends to the Crenshaw/LAX Metro line in the north, Century Boulevard in the south, SoFi Stadium and The Forum in the east and La Brea Avenue in the west.

Ridership is expected to reach 3,098 daily passengers on non-event days and 25,056 daily passengers on NFL game days, according to officials.

Inglewood will hold an online virtual public meeting to accept comments on the draft environmental report and provide information about the project from 6-7 p.m. Jan. 13. The virtual meeting can be accessed at:
